South Dakota joins Texas, Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah.
This includes all portions of I-90 and I-29, except for sections that are already limited below the speed limit (such as cities).
It was part of a road/bridge funding bill that was recently passed, causing great rejoicing for those who drive any portion of the mind-numbing stretches of I-90 between Mitchell, SD and Rapid City, SD. On a slightly more sour note, it came with a 6 cent gas and ethyl alcohol tax increase as well as a 1% increase on the excise fee (our version of sales tax) for vehicle purchases, raising it to 4%. Lastly, vehicle registration taxes have increased 20%.
The tax and fee increases are said to bring in about $86 million in the first year, with everything going towards road/bridge funds, either at the state or local level.

On one hand, I'm not looking forward to paying more in vehicle taxes and fuel, but on the other, South Dakota has long needed to repair its roads/bridges, and since everything in the bill is going towards some type of road or bridge funding, then I can easily stomach this. I drive 170+ miles four days a week for my work commute, and it'll be worth it to me.

Ten percent of South Dakota's major roads are in poor condition. Driving on roads in need of repair costs South Dakota motorists $224 million a year in extra vehicle repairs and operating costs – $368 per motorist.
Twenty-four percent of South Dakota's bridges are structurally deficient or functionally obsolete.
See Congress, even South Dakota knows that roads/bridges need to be fixed and has taken steps to fix them.
EDIT: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that states the conditions of SD roads.

Awesome awesome awesome. Maybe ontario could get rid of our 62 MPH interstates? No? Oh ok. Just don't go 62 mph on the interstate unless you want to want to cause an accident. Minimum acceptable speed is 70 at least.

But 100 km is such a nice, round, whole, number!! I kid, I kid. I agree wholeheartedly. I drove in New Zealand two years ago and the 100 km/h speed limit was mind-numbingly boring. Especially when we were told that 5 km/h (3.2 mph) over was grounds for getting a ticket. We also had a car without a cruise control for about half the trip...

I don't mean to offend, but I've driven some cars with that style of speedometer, and my burning question is, "Can the Pug even reach that speed?" I know some vehicles can't...

I did on the way back. Theoretical 98mph top speed with the XN6 and the slushbox. I pegged it and went beyond for a brief few minutes. I drive 75 all day in it now. No offense taken at all. It doesn't have the best tone at 80+, but it is only a 3 speed

Haha. Tone? Is it more like a howl? My truck has a 4 speed, and when it downshifts to 2nd, all I think in my head is:

Is the 80 mph speed limit only going to be between Mitchell and Rapid? Or will I be able to enjoy the 80 mph speed limit over here on I-29?

You would not get a ticket for 5 over in ontario on the 401. 10 over? Nah. 20 over? Nah. 30 km/h over? Possibly.

Sorry, it's the whole interstate system, minus where they deliberately slow down for cities. So, anywhere that isn't already 65 or below should bump up to 80.
